Each piece in the Faces series brings together oil painting and hand-built ceramic sculpture, two separate acts of making, joined into a single object. These intimate works offer an entry point into a larger body of practice concerned with identity, adornment, and the tension between what we show and what we hide. The animals are not the subject. They are the face we recognize before the actual communication begins. Each work is numbered as part of a continuing series. Balsam Abo Zour is a Lebanese-American artist with over twenty-five years of practice working across painting, sculpture and installation.
